Primary Students Celebrate End of School Year at Field Days

Primary Students Celebrate End of School Year at Field Days

Field days are an end-of-year ritual for many primary school students. Both Hilltop and Shirley Hills schools embraced the tradition and spent an entire day this week celebrating the end of the school year.

Shirley Hills students enjoyed a warm and sunny day for their Super Team Day on June 1 with tons of spectators. Phy ed specialist Mike Nielsen and a large group of volunteers put together an entire schedule of activities.

“Mike Nielsen knocked it out of the park again this year. He puts so much hard work into making this day a success and it showed,” said Dean of Students Beth Hausladen. “There were lots of smiles and fun throughout the day.”

Hausladen thanked the PTA for providing cold treats for the kiddos once the fun was done to help them cool down. A bonus was a visit from the WHS Class of 2026, who stopped at Shirley Hills during the annual Graduation Walk.

Hilltop students also had a great weather day for Field Day on June 2. Relays, games, parachute games, and an entire slate of activities, both indoors and outdoors led to a great day for all.

“The weather was beautiful, the activities were plentiful, and we capped off the day with the tug-o-war tradition of all grades," said Dean of Students John Wardlow.

In a great finale to the day, the Tug-of-War tradition pit the school champion team from Class 4-4 against Hilltop staff, and staff took home the win!
