Kindergartners, dressed like grandparents, celebrated 100 days of school.

It wasn’t Grandparents Day, but it looked like it as students at both Shirley Hills and Hilltop primary schools celebrated a big milestone in February – the 100th day of school. Both schools were full of kindergartners wearing gray wigs and spectacles on chains and using walking canes as they dressed up like 100-year-olds.

Shirley Hills kindergartners completed many counting to 100 tasks throughout the day and did things 100 times. Students wrote up to 100, rolled dice to 100 with a partner, licked a lollipop 100 times, made a 100-bead necklace, dotted 100 times, stacked 100 cups, created a 100th day crown, and received a 100th day of kindergarten certificate. They had a fun day thinking of all the things they'd learned now that they were 100 days smarter.

At Hilltop, students were encouraged to dress like 100-year-old grandpas or grandmas. Kindergartners brought in 100 items from home, counted by 10s, made cereal necklaces with 100 Froot Loops, and did a 100-day activity challenge. A variety of art projects also included the number 10, and students wrote about their 100 wishes.

With Valentine’s Day falling in the same week, it was a whirlwind week for kindergartners!
